Meet Neil Moore, Therapy Success!
November 14, 2023 The Home at Hearthstone is proud to partner with Broad River Rehabilitation which brings quality rehabilitation services to our Residents. Residents need therapy services for different reasons and some of our therapy recipients make Hearthstone their home, but most plan to graduate from therapy and return to the community.
Neil Moore is one of those stories that we are so excited to share. Mr. Moore first came to The Home at Hearthstone in the Spring of 2022 with Cardiac issues. Neil spent a few weeks working diligently with his Physical and Occupational therapy staff to get back home. Neil was able to discharge home but unfortunately fell and fractured his hip about six months later.
Mr. Moore returned to the Home at Hearthstone in October 2022 for rehabilitation following the hip fracture. Broad River Rehabilitation staff reported that Neil was in poor spirits. He appeared weak, deconditioned, depressed, and very withdrawn. To this day Neil will tell you that he was “mean” to the therapy team. With the awesome staff from Broad River Rehabilitation challenging him Mr. Moore became motivated and eager to improve his condition and started his journey to a successful rehabilitation in March 2023. In March he needed maximum assistance with transfers and activities of daily living and could not even walk three short steps.
The Broad River Rehabilitation team is proud to say that he has officially graduated due to the skills of our wonderful therapists and therapy assistants and Mr. Moore’s determination and hard work! Mr. Moore was discharged from The Home at Hearthstone on November 9, 2023, to an apartment in an Assisted Living community. Neil is now independent with transfers, performs his activities of daily living, negotiates 18 stairs successfully, walks over 1000 feet, and even ties his shoes! Neil has been known to share encouragement with his peers in the therapy gym by telling his story. It has been a pleasure to know and be a part of Neil’s success story!
